Quickstart · Node button

One button.
Three modes.

The user button on every RaceLink node does different things depending on what the node is paired with. Pick the section that matches your setup — every row shows the gesture, what the LEDs do, and why.

Mode 1 · Default

Gateway + Host setup

Paired with a host. The master is talking on the channel — the master-quiet gate is closed, so local gestures that would fight the host are silenced.

Single click ≤ 0.6 s

Gated. A short orange strobe confirms the press but nothing changes — the master owns this node's state. The gesture only fires after 60 s of master silence.

Triple click 3× rapid

AP toggles. Always — this gesture ignores the quiet gate. Violet strobe when it opens, warm amber when it closes. Connect to WLED_RaceLink_AP to recover or reconfigure the node.

5-click 5× rapid

Promotion refused. Red strobe for 5 s — a master is talking on this channel, so this node stays a slave.

Long press ≥ 0.6 s hold

Gated. No brightness fade, just the orange strobe — the host owns brightness in this mode.

Mode 2 · No host needed

Headless master

This node is the broadcast master. It pairs in unconfigured peers, sends scenes, and persists across reboot until you exit explicitly.

Single click ≤ 0.6 s

Next scene. Picks the next catalog scene and broadcasts it to the fleet — per-group offsets and flags are preserved.

Triple click 3× rapid

AP toggles. Push presets or change config without leaving headless mode — and close it again with the same gesture.

5-click 5× rapid

Exit headless. Amber strobe for 5 s — slaves are released, persistence cleared.

Long press ≥ 0.6 s hold

Brightness fade. Ping-pongs up and down while held; on release the final value is broadcast to the fleet once and persisted across reboot.

Mode 3 · Solo

Standalone

Solo node. No master, no paired host — either fresh out of the box, or the master has been quiet for ≥ 60 s.

Single click ≤ 0.6 s

Colour cycle. Steps red → green → blue → random with each click. Idles back to red after 10 s.

Triple click 3× rapid

AP toggles. Initial setup or recovery — the node exposes WLED_RaceLink_AP so you can reach the WLED UI, and shuts it again on the next triple click.

5-click 5× rapid

Becomes headless master. Cyan strobe for 5 s — no master is talking, so this node is promoted and persists across reboot. If a gateway or another master does answer, it steps back down on its own.

Long press ≥ 0.6 s hold

Brightness fade (local). Ping-pongs up and down; on release the final value is saved locally. No fleet broadcast.

Master-quiet gate. Single-click colour cycling, long-press brightness fading and promotion to headless master only fire when no master has spoken to this node for 60 s — otherwise you get a short orange strobe instead. Triple-click AP recovery always works.

Double-click and 4× or 6+ clicks are reserved typo guards — no action.
